- Abstract:
- World Wildlife Fund Ecoregions represents global terrestrial and freshwater ecoregions defined as relatively large areas of land or water in the world that share a large majority of their species, dynamics, and environmental conditions. It contains the terrestrial habitats and some freshwater habitats of the Global 200 ecoregions, a collection of the Earth's most outstanding and diverse terrestrial, freshwater, and marine habitats--areas where the Earth's biological wealth is most distinctive and rich, where its loss will be most severely felt, and where we must fight the hardest for conservation. The data is from the World Wildlife Fund Conservation Science Program 1998 - 1999. For more information, contact <http://www.worldwildlife.org>.
- Purpose:
- World Wildlife Fund Ecoregions provides a global view of mainly terrestrial ecoregions defined by the World Wildlife Fund Conservation Science Program 1998 - 1999, and can be used for geographic display and analysis at national and world levels.
- Supplemental_Information: Largest scale when displaying the data: 1:3,000,000.

- The WWF Conservation Science Program 1998 - 1999 created terrestrial ecoregions for the world by continent including, Africa, Asia, Australia, Central/South America, Europe, Greenland, Hawaii, Islands, and North America.

- Process_Description:
- The following steps were performed by ESRI: Extracted the continental data sets from World Wildlife Fund media. Located and removed overlapping features between less dense continents. Between dense continents, used the Clip tool of the ArcView Geoprocessing Extension to remove overlapping features. Edited each data set to contain similar attributes. Merged all continents into one data set. Calculated Mht_name attribute to "Water" for all records where Ecoregion attribute value was "Water". Fixed a typographical error in Ecoregion attribute. Increased width of Mht_name attribute to fit its longest length values. Removed attributes where values were missing or out of domain range. Recalculated attributes, where possible, to keep within domain range. Created ArcGIST layer file (.lyr). Created ArcView legend file (.avl). Created projection file (.prj). Ran ArcView Avenue request ExportClean, and created spatial indices.
