How to print a map.

The selected radiobutton determines the page size for a landscape map. Use the checkboxes to determine which layers are to appear in the legend. If no layers are checked then no legend will be visible. If the border checkbox is selected then a border will appear around the map and the title. The title appears centered above the map, and the note appears in the lower left corner outside of the border. Once OK is pressed, a new browser window will open containing the map. Adjust the printer orientation to landscape, sent the page size to the appropriate size, and print the map from the browser.

How to download vector data.

(This menu item is only present on the interface if the mapping web server has defined a download service.)
Use the checkboxes to determine which layers are to be clipped and made available for download. Image data is not available for download. Once OK is pressed a new browser window is opened containing a link to the desired download file.

How to zoom to a location.

Enter the desired location, select the zoom extent and press go. Use the radio buttons to select the appropriate coordinate system. (All three radio buttons will only be visible if Maplicity supports the coordinate system of the data.)

How to locate an address.

Geocoding (Locating an address) is only available if the map service has a layer containing geocoding information.
Fill in the address as best as possible skipping unknown fields. Use the score slider to set the minimum match requirements. (A lower value will return more matches, though their accuracy may be in doubt.) Press the locate button to process the address. If matches are found then they returned in the table section of the dialog. Based on the score, select a row, and press the add to map button. This adds a graphic marker and graphic text to the map recentering the map on that address.

How to run a stored query

Select desired query, enter the required values, and press query. This will perform a standard attribute selection on the active layer. (Please remember the string values are case sensitive.)

How to toggle layer visibility.
(In the sample images below, the layer Tiger2000 Roads is toggle from not visible to visible)

Select the checkbox next to the layer name to toggle a layer's visibility. If auto-refresh is enabled then the map will reflect the changes immediately. Else the changes will take place when the refresh button is pressed or at the next zoom operation.

How to set a layer as active.

How to change layer symbology.

To simply change the symbology of a layer or specific classification double click on the symbol cell in the legend table to open the symbol editor dialog.
Simple legends are a single symbol for the entire layer.
To create more advanced legends, first select a field from the field list.
Unique legends have a symbol for each unique value in a field. These can only be created for string and integer fields.
Quantile legends have the same number of items in each classification. These can only be created with numeric fields.
Equal Interval legends have the same range between all the classifications. These can only be create with numeric fields.
Please be aware that creating advanced legends requires sampling every value in the selected field. If the active layer has many records (Over 1000), sampling could take a very very long time. So please use care when performing such operations.

What are the popup menu options associated with layers?

Certain operations on layers can be performed within the legend. Right click on a layer in the legend to display the popup menu.

These operations occur on the layer that has been clicked in, not the current active layer.

How to set the label properties on a layer.

From the field list on the left select the fields to be used in labeling.

Double clicking on a value in the value list automatically places it in the textbox.
When using the "like" operator, include the % wildcard operator. ie: NAME like 'Oak%'.
Please be aware that getting samples requires sampling every value in the selected field. If the active layer has many records (Over 1000), sampling could take a very very long time. So please use care when performing such operations.
By the same token, performing a very broad query or spatial selection on a layer with many records will take a long time.
