Simulated Earth Image

This map is a synthesis between my original earth map, gradient
mapping of the USGS DEM information, hand painting, DEM modulation
of detail, bathyspheric depth information, and the USGS Ocean clip.
Bathyspheric data was used to modulate the colour of the water so
that deeper areas are a darker blue than shallow areas.

Inserted by Trent Hare (USGS):
The image was enlaged by a factor of two. Shading was added based on
hillshade from the Gtopo30. The Sun's angle was 270 degrees (shaded
from the west). To conserve space the image was then converted from
RGB to index color Tiff file.
